The delivery of three new Kobelco excavators to a coastal project in the North West is a great example of how Molson can work in partnership with its clients to provide exactly the machines they need for the job, whatever the project, whatever the working environment.
Molson supplied the new 50 tonne SK520LC-11EKobelco excavators to Ovenden Earthmoving, to support their work for Wyre Council in upgrading their sea defences, as reported in the latest edition of Awesome Earthmovers magazine. The company already operates an extensive fleet of SK500LC Kobelco excavators, and were keen to see how much more the newly upgraded SK520s were capable of.
Due to the extreme and highly corrosive marine environment that the Kobelco excavators were to be used in, Molson was asked to perform a number of important upgrades before delivery. This included spraying the machines with a waterproof coating and moving control boxes into the protected environment of the cab and away from the risks from saltwater spray.
“Here at Molson, we want the machines we supply to be ready to get to work from day one,” explained Commercial Director, Phil Bates. “We are always happy to accommodate any special requests from our customers, and we have an expert team of engineers on hand to make any upgrades or adjustments that are needed to make the machine the perfect fit for the job. It’s all part of the complete Molson service that keeps customers coming back time after time for more equipment.”
The new SK520LC-11E Kobelco excavator is a significant upgrade on the previous SK500 model, with an improved lifting capacity of over 21tonnes. This is combined with a heavy counterweight and longer boom to increase its reach. Durability has also been improved with new 110mm bucket and tipping link pins.
Powered by a new 348kW Isuzu engine, the new SK520LC-11E Kobelco excavator produces over 15% more power than the SK500 range, with 2050Nm of torque at just 1300rpm. This not only ensures all the performance you need, but also keeps operating costs down through lower fuel consumption.
“The new Kobelco SK520s are living up to our expectations,” said Senior Works Manager Marc Haughin. “They are proving to be an excellent all-rounder, delivering the performance we need to continue delivering projects on time and on budget.”
Molson itself has also lived up to Ovenden’s expectations, with Director Jack Barwick impressed with the after sales service that the nationwide Molson team provides. “Kobelko excavators have always been a very reliable product,” he told Awesome Earthmovers. “And if we have any issues, Molson has always been very quick to respond.”
“Molson are delighted to welcome this powerful new Kobelco excavator to our extensive Kobelco range,” said Phil Bates. “It’s exciting to see leading manufacturers working hard to constantly improve and upgrade their products to deliver even more power and performance to the end user.
“Molson works closely with Kobelco and other manufacturers to support these innovations. Our experts deliver invaluable feedback and performance data from our nationwide customer base, who work on all kinds of projects in all kinds of conditions. This ensures that each new generation of machines is even better suited to the real-life demands of the construction sector.”
