Workspace cleaning tips – Cleaning out the cab

With sites re-opening throughout England and Wales, we thought we would share a few tips and tricks to help you ensure your machine is as safe a place to work as possible.

With the number of confirmed cases well over 200,000 and still rising, we must all do whatever we can to reduce the spread of Coronavirus. By following the simple steps detailed below, you can ensure that your machine cab is as safe as possible before starting work again.

Please note that this article is based on the advice provided by the UK Government and covers the situation where someone who has a confirmed case of COVID-19 has not recently been in the cab or worked on the machine. If you know that someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19 has recently been inside the cab or worked on the machine, you should take extra precaution as detailed by the UK Government, including PPE protection for the eyes, mouth and nose, as well as wearing gloves and an apron.

What you will need:

Disinfectant spray or wipes

Clean disposable cloths

Disposable gloves

Window cleaner (optional)

Before you enter the cab, you will need to use disinfectant spray and your disposable cloth to clean:

Door handles for the cab door and all access panels

All handrails

Re-fulling pump button and nozzle

Points of contact for daily checks (dipstick, etc.)

Any tools, such as grease gun

In the cab, the following things should be individually cleaned using disinfectant spay and a new disposable cloth:

The internal door handle and door release

Window opening latches and controls

Machine control leavers

Dashboard and buttons

Display cluster and controls

Radio

Air conditioning panel

Seat adjustment controls

Internal bodywork / glazing

Once this is all completed, depending on the anti-bacterial spray you have used, it may be advisable to clean your windows separately (with a new disposable cloth) to ensure a clear, uninterrupted view from the cab.

Machines without a cab:

As many of the products in the Molson Group portfolio do not have a cab, you may wonder what you can do to ensure they are clean and clear from Coronavirus. To reduce the risk of spread on machines such as crushers, screeners, shredders and even hydraulic attachments, you can clean the following using disinfectant spray or wipes and clean disposable cloths:

All access panels

The remote control and control unit

All handrails

Re-fulling pump button and nozzle

Points of contact for daily checks (dipstick, etc.)

Any tools, such as grease gun

Clean any other contact points of contact, such as quick release couplers
