It’s all very well reading the slick brochures and the impressive claims of manufacturers, but where a machine really proves itself is in practice, in the field. And at waste management company, Wheeldons, the Sennebogen 817E, supplied by Molson Green, has more than proved its worth, as described in the July issue of Hub4 magazine.
The Sennebogen 817E is the smallest materials handler in the current Sennebogen range, but that was part of the attraction for Wheeldons. While their operations are extensive, with a fleet of thirty trucks collecting over 60,000tonnes of waste from across the region every year, their processing facilities are relatively compact.
Wheeldons needed a materials handler that could work efficiently and effectively in tight spaces, loading and unloading trucks and sorting the waste. With an 8.5m pin height and an 8m ground level reach, the Sennebogen 817E had the specifications required, while the 300litre rotating selector grab was ideal for Wheeldons’ purposes.
“The Sennebogen 817E from Molson Green was the ideal solution in terms of size and capabilities,” says Yard Manager, Martin Bickerstaff.
Despite its impressive spec, the Sennebogen 817E remains relatively compact, without the issues of a wide tail swing causing problems. It is also remarkably stable when in use, with a wide undercarriage supported by twin stabilisers for confident grounding, even at full reach.
Maintenance in close quarters has also been carefully considered on this innovative machine. A single gull wing door on one side allows access to the entire engine, while the other side allows access to the complete electrical system. This ease of maintenance avoids the need to remove the machine from the processing plant for routine daily checks and servicing.
Wheeldons have previously used tracked machines for their materials handers, but opted for the wheeled Sennebogen 817E from Molson Green for its increased manoeuvrability.
Being able to swap and change machines, between the materials handler and bulk loaders, at different stages of the process, has significantly improved operations, with Martin Bickerstaff reporting that “having the Sennebogen 817E mounted on a wheeled undercarriage has increased our productivity immensely”.
Molson Sales Director for Recycling, Thomas McKeever, is equally impressed with the Sennebogen 817E. “This excellent materials handler is ideal for use in smaller spaces like the processing plant at Wheeldons,” he says. “Compact and powerful, with a long reach, impressive capacity and great stability, it delivers everything you need in terms of performance, while the wheeled chassis adds flexibility, even within small yards and indoor areas.
“Molson Green are pleased to be able to offer the Sennebogen 817E with either the 100kW Cummins F3.8, Stage V compliant diesel powered unit, or with a state of the art electric engine that cuts emissions and running costs even further.”
As the recycling industry machinery experts, Molson Green has dozens of similar successful case studies for machines across the complete Sennebogen range. Just like the Sennebogen 817E has proved itself in the field, these machines have shown that they can deal with almost any scale of operation, from limited space situations like Wheeldons, to vast dockside materials handling operations where the Sennebogen 875E and Sennebogen 895E truly come into their own.
Molson Green have a wide range of new and used machines which can meet almost any need, all backed by unrivalled aftercare from our extensive field servicing team.
