Terex Cone Crusher Holds Perfect Fit for Tillicoultry – Molson

April 22, 2020

With a service legacy for over 85 years, family owned Tillicoultry Quarries (TQ) is an industry leader in the supply of a wide range of construction materials to help build Scotland’s roads, buildings and infrastructure.

Acquired by TQ some 5-6 years ago, Hillend Quarry is a hard rock quarry with over 50 years of reserves. Located near Caldercruicks in the Central Lowlands of Scotland, it is the 4th hard rock quarry in the company’s portfolio.

On-going investment:
With production by the previous owner having finished, Tillicoultry had some work and investment including new planning conditions to complete before operations could commence.

With continuous investment over a period of time a range of Terex Finlay Crushing and Screening equipment has been installed and supplied by Molson Equipment through their subsidiary Finlay Scotland from their depot in Glasgow.

The range of equipment is very impressive and includes two – Terex Finlay 1550 Cone Crushers, one Terex Finlay 693+ 20×5 2-deck screen and a Terex Finlay 694+ 20×5 3-deck screen. The 693+ screener is the latest addition with the other machines brought in from other company locations.

With production starting officially in September 2019, the processing operation is currently producing approximately 8-9000 tonnes per month from which 5 products are produced – 6mm/10mm/14mm/20mm + dust which is sold to local authorities as well as suppling in-house asphalt plants and construction projects as far west as Glasgow and Edinburgh in the East.

An impressive production train:
Averaging 80tph through the very impressive train of Terex Finlay machines the production process is completed in two stages. Blasted material is fed into a primary jaw crusher and stockpiled. This material is then picked up by wheel loader and fed into the Terex Finlay train starting with the first C-1550 cone crusher. Working in closed circuit, material is then fed into the 693+ screener with all the +20mm then fed into the second C-1550 for further reduction and then screened by the 694+ screener for the 6 and 10mm. This set-up provides and maintains a very consistent product shape.

A further option to produce type 1 material can also be achieved by utilising the jaw crusher and one Terex Finlay C-1550 cone crusher.

Robert Hamilton –TQ Area Production Manager, commented, “We are very pleased with the Terex Finlay kit, it is very reliable, consistently performs well and produces sellable products. The C-1550 Cone Crusher in particular although a very hungry piece of kit is a very versatile machine.

“When we invested in the brand, we had to be sure about the service and I can say that Finlay Scotland have been first class with a very fast response when we have needed them.”

Terex Finlay 693+ Mobile Inclined Screen:
As a next generation screen the 693+ inclined screen has been developed to fulfil the demands of high production producers in quarrying, mining, sand and gravel, coal, woodchip and topsoil applications.

The new high energy screen box features two full size 6.1m x 1.53m (20 x 5) decks that can process fine, sticky and dirty material with ease. A large hopper/feeder is fitted with variable speed belt feeder to ensure consistent flow of material and can be fitted with remote tipping grid or double-deck vibrating grid.

With an upgraded hydraulics system providing the optimum balance of power and efficiency,  the powerpack has been designed to operate at lower engine speeds to raise cost-efficiency in the long term without compromising on performance.  A hybrid powerpack is also available as an option.

Key features include a simplified and re-configured folding mechanism for the on-board product conveyors for ease of deployment and user-friendly operation. Hydraulic folding catwalks are standard for improved on-site efficiency and enable rapid screen box deployment.

Ultra-efficient screening:
Maximum utilisation of the two 20 x 5 decks can be achieved by their hydraulic adjustment between an angle between 18°and 30° to provide ultra-efficient screening capacities even at small aggregate sizes.

The latest ‘state-of-the-art’ T-Link telematics hardware and software along with a free seven-year data subscription are fitted and installed as standard.
